Fall River Police Association Endorses Mayor Paul Coogan

Elect Paul Coogan Endorsement Massachusetts Coalition Of Police 2025

The Massachusetts Coalition of Police, Fall River Police Association, Local 1854, after careful consideration of both candidates for Mayor of Fall River, endorses and supports the re-election of Paul Coogan for Mayor.

In 2019, the Fall River Police Association endorsed Paul Coogan for Mayor because his position relative to integrity and public safety most accurately reflected the actions and position of the union and its members at that time.

In 2023, the Fall River Police Association once again endorsed Mayor Paul Coogan based on the effort and accomplishment by Mayor Coogan and his Administration over the previous two years to improve work conditions, improve standards and make staffing levels a priority.

Now, in 2025, the Fall River Police Association again endorses Mayor Paul Coogan for reelection based on his continued commitment to public safety. Mayor Coogan has made difficult decisions during the past two years to ensure standards were met by members of the police department at all ranks. He has prioritized advancement in technology and equipment by providing the Chief’s of Police with the resources needed to acquire technology and equipment to support our members. Mayor Coogan continues to prioritize staffing levels and is working with the Association and Chief of Police to fully staff the Police Department to provide services to the community in the most efficient and safe manner.

The Association has also considered endorsement for candidates of City Council and while doing so, the Association has decided not to provide an endorsement for any candidate for City Council. The Association has worked with Mayor Coogan and his Administration over the past several months on a collective bargaining agreement, which expired on June 30, 2025. A successor collective bargaining agreement is expected to be before the City Council in the near future, therefore, the Association does not want to create what could be perceived as a conflict of interest due to it being so close to the election and the Association asking the City Council to support the collective bargaining Agreement.

Respectfully,

Jonathan Ferreira

President, MassCOP, Fall River Police Association, Local 1854
